First Week in Gamboa: leaf-cutter ants, bats, fungus, OH MY!

Three RETs in a Tree
Leaf cutter ant fungi garden

Wow! I have been in Panama now for 4 days and it has been absolutely mind-blowing! We’ve gotten to listen to two lectures or talks already- one on bats and one on the use of animal resources in ancient Mayan culture. We’ve taken a short hike in the rainforest, gotten to see leaf cutter ants up-close and personal, and went into Panama City for the day. My mind is reeling with so many ideas on how to incorporate this experience into my classroom. Tomorrow we are going to Barro Colorado Island and this weekend we get to meet the Wounaan indians. I am very grateful for this experience.
